TO HEAR IS NOT THE SAME AS TO LISTEN

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO LISTEN WITH CARE AND LOVE TO OUR CHILDREN
Even though the world is full of people sometimes we can feel a great loneliness. People often do not have enough time and have lot of stress as to listen to others. Everyone, both adults and children, need to know that we are important to somebody and that people around us have interest on what we say.

LEARN TO LISTEN
Hear sounds simple, but in reality is not an easy task. Not everyone knows how to do it. To hear is not the same as to listen. It is not enough to wait for the other to finish speaking without interrupting, it is necessary to have the intention to hear them. We must pay attention not only on their words but also on the message of their silences, gestures, their ideas, concerns, their feelings... We have to listen truly with our hearts to our children.

THEY ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL US
Generally, we prefer to talk to us than to listen to what we are told, which, in addition to detract from the communication, is not socially correct. Perhaps we might sometimes think that our children do not have important things to communicate, but surely for them whatever it is what they tell us it is important. All children have important things to tell us. We only need to learn how to listen to them.

PREPARE THE LISTENING
To start with, we must ensure that the surrounding is not an obstacle and avoid situations that may distract us (TV, radio, reading, etc.).It is important to invite them to talk. Principally to children to which is more difficult to communicate. A good way to begin may be to make an open question.

Moreover, enriching their oral expression will increase their communication skills. As soon as we perceive their emotions and feelings, tone of voice, gestures..., it is convenient to offer them the appropriated words to show them how to express what they feel correctly. The attitude of the active "listener" also helps, but above all the secret is not to interrupt. Asking them about what they are trying to tell us will make them feel that we care. Let’s listen to them as we would like to be listened!
